How to Make a UniFi Guest Wi-Fi QR Code
Create a separate guest SSID in UniFi, turn its details into a scannable code, and handle captive portals and password changes correctly.
A UniFi QR code is most useful when it points guests to a dedicated network. The QR handles the radio connection. Your UniFi network rules and any hotspot portal still decide what guests can access afterward.
Prepare the guest network in UniFi
- Open UniFi Network → Settings → WiFi and select or create the guest SSID.
- Check its network name, password, security setting, and whether the SSID is hidden.
- Check the network assigned to that SSID. If guests should be separate from internal devices, configure the appropriate guest network isolation in UniFi.
- Decide whether you also use Hotspot Portal. A portal can require another action after the QR-assisted Wi-Fi connection.
Ubiquiti documents SSID settings in its WiFi settings overview and network isolation in its guest WiFi guidance. Use those controls for network access; a QR image cannot provide isolation.
Generate and test the QR code
Open the generator, enter the guest SSID exactly, choose the matching security option, and enter its current shared password. Use the hidden-network switch only when that SSID is actually hidden. Download the code and test the file before placing it in a designed card. Test again from the printed card at its final size and under the lighting guests will have.
If you use a captive portal
The scan may join the Wi-Fi network and then open a portal page for a password, voucher, or other authorization. Tell visitors what to expect on the sign. Ubiquiti’s hotspot documentation lists the supported portal flows. Do not promise “one scan and connected” when your portal has a second step.
Keep the card current
Name the print file for the guest SSID and location. After changing the network name or shared password, generate a new file and remove older cards. If guests scan successfully but cannot browse, check portal authorization, network isolation, DHCP, and internet access before replacing the QR image.
