How to Share a Wi-Fi QR Code on Android

Find Android’s built-in Wi-Fi sharing code, scan one on another phone, and make a printable code when you need a sign or guest card.

Quick answer

On many Android phones, open Settings → Network & internet → Internet, tap the connected Wi-Fi network, then tap Share. Android shows a QR code another device can scan. Settings labels can differ by manufacturer.

The built-in Android code is fast when someone is standing beside you. For a cafe counter or a rental welcome card, create a downloadable code from the same network details so you can print and replace it.

Share the network from Android Settings

  1. Connect your Android phone to the network you intend to share.
  2. Open Settings, then Network & internet and Internet.
  3. Tap the connected Wi-Fi network and choose Share. Complete any device unlock prompt.
  4. Show the resulting QR code to your guest. Have them verify the network name before accepting the connection.

These are the steps in Google’s Android Wi-Fi help. Samsung and other manufacturers may group the controls under different settings, so search Settings for Wi-Fi or Share if the path differs.

Scan a Wi-Fi QR code on another Android phone

On a Pixel, open Camera, frame the whole code, and tap the prompt. Google also documents a Scan QR code control in Quick Settings; its Pixel camera guide explains both paths. On other Android devices, try the camera’s QR option or the Wi-Fi settings scanner. You do not need to take a photo of a printed code.

Turn the network into a permanent guest sign

Use the network name and current password in our Wi-Fi QR code generator. Choose the matching security setting and turn on Hidden network only if the router does not broadcast the SSID. Download a PNG or SVG, then test the actual file from a second phone. A code created from the phone’s current network may become stale if someone later changes the router password.

A Wi-Fi QR code contains connection details. Share a guest SSID on signs instead of your private home or staff network, and replace the sign when you rotate its password.

When scanning does not connect

Separate a scan problem from a network problem. If no prompt appears, increase light, reduce glare, and keep the entire code inside the camera view. If a prompt appears but the connection fails, check the SSID, password, security choice, and hidden-network setting. If the phone connects but says it has no internet, investigate the access point or captive portal. Our troubleshooting checklist walks through each stage.

Make a code for a guest card

Create a downloadable code from your guest SSID and test it on a second device.
